Friday Favorites

It's time for another Friday Favorites post!  I swear the weekends keep coming faster and faster!
I'm linking up again today with Andrea, Erika & Narci.

~ONE~

Woman in Gold.  I watched this last night and it was so good.  If you enjoy movies with a good story, without all the bad language (there may have been a couple of words, but not enough that I noticed), without all the nudity... then I think you'll love it too.

~TWO~

I love this!  Wouldn't this be a fun piece to have in a kitchen.
source

~THREE~

I am loving this hair style.  I love my hair long, but once it's long, I get antsy to cut it off again.  I don't know if I'll do it, but if I do... this might be the way I go.

 ~FOUR~

I diffuse lemon into my house and I love it.  Lemon is such a fresh scent... perfect for a busy home.

~FIVE~

My family took off in different directions this weekend and I'm home alone!  Eeek!  What is a Mom to do with a whole weekend at home?  (Even my girlfriends are out of town.)  Last night I rented a movie, picked up a couple of frozen pizza's, some snacks and a few magazines.  I'm also hoping to get to a couple different projects around the house so I can feel a bit more organized before they all rush back through the doors and a new week starts.

What would you all do with a weekend at home by yourself?

Any recommendations on what to watch or read?

I hope you all have the best weekend!
XOXO

What's Up Wednesday

It's already the end of July!  Eeek!  I can't believe how fast this summer is flying by.  It's crazy, I tell you.  Well it also means that it's time for a another month of What's Up Wednesday.  I'm linking back up with Shay, Mel & Sheaffer.

What we're eating this week

Spanish Rice II Allrecipes.com
source
I made this spanish rice as a side dish this week for a family get together.  I had some leftover, so I've been eating it this week for lunch.  Yum!

What I'm reminiscing about

Nothing that I can think of.  I know... lame, right!?  ;)  Life has just been busy lately.  Instead of looking back and reminiscing about much, I'm just trying to keep all the balls in the air.

What I'm loving

I'm loving these summer days.  I'm ready for life not to feel so crazy busy... but I'm loving the warm weather and trying to soak it in.
Hold on, summer!

 What we've been up to

Gracie finishes her volleyball camp today.  That's our last camp for the year.  Woohoo!  I have signed the kids up for more this summer than I ever have before.  It's been a bit exhausting... but with her only being a year out from entering high school sports, I want to give her as much experience as I can.

What I'm dreading

I can't think of anything that I'm dreading at the moment...  I'm bummed that the pool will be closing down in the next couple of weeks.  But I'm not dreading it.

What I'm working on

Editing pictures!  Tons and tons of pictures!  I have 5 more sessions to shoot in the next 3 weeks and all 6 sessions to edit.  My butt will be glued to this computer chair.

What I'm excited about

I'm actually a bit excited to have the weekend at home to get caught up on some of the things that I've been wanting to get to.

What I'm watching/reading

Now that the Bachelorette is over... I'm not watching anything.  I did start a new book last week.  Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner.  I don't think I've ever read anything by her before, but I'm excited to give this a try.  So far it's been good.

What I'm listening to

Here are a couple of songs that I've put on my itunes over the last month.
Honey, I'm good.  -Andy Grammer
Shut Up and Dance.  -Walk The Moon
You Make Me Brave  -Bethel Music and Amanda Cook

What I'm wearing

 Drape Front Cardigan (Nordstrom Exclusive)
Any time I get the chance, I am wearing this "blardigan" that I ordered.  It is the coziest thing I've ever worn.  Seriously, it's like wearing a cozy blanket.

What I'm doing this weekend

I will be editing pictures, watching movies, reading my book and relaxing around the house... while wearing my "blardigan" of course.  Haha!

What I'm looking forward to next month

Nothing too big really.  I'm excited to turn the pages on my calender and start another month with a somewhat clean schedule.

 What else is new

These 2 kittens.  Meet Hunter and Hawk.  They were a little shy and not too sure of people when we first got them.  But man are they warming up.  They are the most curious little guys and are all over the house.  They will eventually be outdoor cats once they get a bit bigger.  For now, we are just having fun hanging out with them.

What will you miss most about summer

Definitely spending time with my kids.  With all 3 of them in school, it gets pretty quiet around the house.  I'll definitely miss getting to wear summer clothes and flip flops along with being warm.  I absolutely hate being cold.  My body hurts when I'm cold... yup, I'm an old lady!  Ha!  ;)

I hope you all are having a great week so far!

XOXO

Goals for the month of August

Source

Today I thought I would post my goals for the month of August.

July has been a crazy, busy month for us.  We are finishing up our 5th and last sports camp for the season!  Phew!  Along with 4 weeks of swim lessons, photo sessions, editing pictures and filling in for my Dad at his store.  So even though July brought a lot of fun and busy things... I'm happy to welcome August and her not as busy schedule.  I'm hoping the kids and I have a bit more time to relax and spend at home.

Goals for August

1.  Buy and organize school supplies.  I'm hoping to have their backpacks packed up and waiting on us.  I don't want to wait for the last week before school starts to be scrambling to get everything together.

2.  Camp in the yard one night with the kids.  We have our camper sitting out in our driveway.  I think the kids would like it if we all stayed out in it one night.  Snacks, flashlights and scary stories...  :)  Who needs to park a camper somewhere else?  We can have fun in our own backyard.

3.  Stay caught up on my photos.  I have 6 photo sessions scheduled in August.  I need to schedule time every day to sit down and work on those a little bit so I don't get behind.

4.  Finish last minute planning for a trip that Dan and I'll be taking in September.  I'll share more about this soon.  I'm getting so excited and nervous.

5. Take the kids to the swimming pool at least 3 times a week in the first couple of weeks.  Our pool closes after the first couple weeks in August and won't reopen until June, so we need to use it while we can.

6.  Plan Emma's 8th birthday party.  I feel like it gets harder and harder to plan birthday parties for my kids the older they get.  Do you all feel this way?

7.  Plan more family game/movie nights with Dan and the kids.  We can all get so busy some days doing our own thing around the house that I need to be more intentional of getting all of us together to have some fun.

8.  Make time to sit and read.  I have started a few different books but haven't sat down in so long to actually get through any of them.  That is so not like me.  I want to get back into my books.

None of these goals of mine are big.  They're just things that I need to stay on top of so my month will run a bit more smoothly.

Do you have any big goals for the month of August?

Our weekend

I thought today I'd recap a bit of our weekend.

Thursday evening after Dan got off work, we headed for the driving range to hit some balls.  I never golfed until I met him and even in all the years we've been together I've only ever golfed maybe... 6 times.  He hasn't made it out to play much lately and he needs to be practicing up for a big tournament that he's in every year, so I told him we should go shoot some balls.  Poor guy started laughing at me.  He informed me that even though we live in Montana, we still only hit balls, we don't shoot them.  Okay... got it honey!  ;)

Is it me or do I look like I'm ready to play baseball instead?

Even though I'm not quite good enough to go on tour yet, we had a lot of fun and laughed a ton.

Friday evening after Dan got off work we headed up to the lake.  It was chilly and almost stormy.
The other direction didn't look as bad with the sun setting.  I love a good sunset, but I equally loved the stormy sky as well.

Saturday morning, Dan and I woke up early and enjoyed this view before the kids woke up.  Peace!

After the kids woke up we loaded everybody into the boat and headed to Big Fork for breakfast again.  I think it's everybody's favorite new tradition.

The restaurant is always packed.  I think it's one of the only places open for breakfast.  Emma and I found a bench down the street and took a morning selfie.

Hopping back in the boat after breakfast.  Time to hit the water.

I even drove the boat for a bit.  I was feeling very smug.  I may have even been talking to the kids in my strong pirate accent.  Anything can happen when you are handed the wheel of a ship boat.

Sunday we hit the water early and let the kids do some more tubing.
We got home around bedtime Sunday evening and hit the floor running Monday morning.

It looks to be another busy week.  Work hard, play harder.  That is our summer so far!

Friday Favorites

I'm back again today sharing my Friday favorites and linking up with Andrea, Erika & Narci.

Normally I just give you a list of random favorites but I thought today I would give you a list of my favorites from the Nordstrom sale that's going on.

~1~

These TOMS are such a nice neutral color.  TOMS are one of my favorite brands of shoes because I can wear them without socks and they are so comfortable.  Most shoes will give me a blister, but not these.  Love them!

~2~

I have been hearing about this cardigan, (also referred to as the blardigan) for the last year or so.  Well... I finally ordered it, and it is seriously the best thing ever.  I wish I would have ordered it last year.  I ordered the solid grey which looks to be sold out, but I'm wishing I had this one as well.

~3~

This bag!  Isn't it fun!  And the price is great.  It's on sale for $35.90.

~4~

I ordered this shirt and can't wait for Fall to get here so I can wear it.  I'll pair it with a long tank underneath, a pair of jeans and some boots.

~5~

How cute are these scarves?  Scarves are such a fun little accessory without being too much.  Plus with our cold Montana winters, they help keep me warm.  Double win.

Did you guys shop the sale, or have you all been being good?  I tried really hard to behave.

I hope you've all had a great week and enjoy your weekend!

5 Things I'm passionate about

I recently came across a blog article where the author listed 50 blog topics to write about.  "5 Things Your Passionate About" was one of the topics on her list.  I thought it sounded like a fun topic.

I decided in my list of 5 things, not to post the normal answers like my family, faith, etc... because those are usually the same for everyone.  So beyond those, here's what I came up with in no particular order.

~Photography~

I have been taking pictures since my freshman year in high school.  Which may or may not have been 18 years ago.  I'll never tell.  ;)

Anyways, that was back before the age of digital cameras.  We used film and developed it in the dark room.  Yeah, so maybe I just dated myself...  Anyways, it was so much fun.  But now I have just as much fun with my digital camera and computer software as I did back then.

A few years ago I started up a photography business.  I LOVED it, but decided to shut it down after 3 years because I felt like it took up too much of my time.  I felt like my family, house and life were suffering because of it, even though my family never said so.  I had to have time to plan sessions, go on shoots, edit pictures, etc... I realized that my kids were growing up fast, and I kind of felt like I was missing some of it.  I would take pictures for people all week, and then be too tired or disinterested in taking any of my own kids.

My kids aren't as little as they used to be, but they still need me to be present.  Someday they'll be more independent and I'll have even more freedom to pursue what I want to do... but for now, I just want to be free to be with them.

~Elderly~

I LOVE the elderly!!!  One of my biggest dreams would be to open up a nice and fun nursing home or assisted living.  These people are somebody's grandparents, parents, siblings, etc.  I have heard so many sad stories about how they can be treated and it makes me livid.  They matter!  What they say matters!  How they are treated and respected matters!  They have lived and seen things that we haven't and when they walk through the doors they should find a peaceful and safe place to put their feet up and relax.  It should be a place where we would want to live.  Because someday, it will be us.

~Traveling~

This is one of Dan and I's favorite things to do together.  It's a passion for both of us.  We pretty much want to see it all.  We have written up many lists and stayed up late into the night talking about all the different places we want to see and why.  Some are small little trips.  Some are huge trips where we will be saving for a long time to ever make it happen.  Some are family trips, some with our friends, and some just the two of us.  Even if we never do them all, which is most likely!  :)  It's still fun dreaming of all the places that we'd like to see.

~Reading~

There aren't a whole lot of things that make me happier than a really good book!  Unfortunately, I've found that really good books are hard to come by.  So I just keep reading more books and sometimes I hit the jackpot.  Reading is one of my favorite things to do.  Yes, I'm a dork and I fully admit it.  :)  But reading is something that I've always been very passionate about.

In school we were required to read a book and then write up a book report.  I remember my friends HATED this.  They would moan and wine and I would play along with them to be cool, but on the inside... I was all "Woohoo!!!!"  What's better than reading a good book and then getting to tell people all about it.  Hahaha!

~Orphans~

Orphans are so near and dear to my heart.  I am already a "mama bear" to my own kids, but I feel the same way when it comes to kids that don't have anyone to love them or protect them.  A fierceness comes out in me to be that person for them.  Years ago, I was sure that someday I would adopt.  I've prayed for years and years whether this is something that Dan and I are being called to do.  Years ago I was sure that I would adopt from Guatemala, but then they shut down adoptions there.

I've followed many blogs over the years about family's adopting.  I've read tons of articles online about adopting and different adoptions.  We've even contacted a couple agencies over the years to ask questions about starting the process.  But each time we'd get started, we felt like God was telling us to wait.  So we did.  I think after all this time, I've finally given up on the idea that we'll ever adopt.  I'd still love to, but I don't know if that's what God has in store for our family.  I trust that he knows what is best and so we're continually trying to give up control and let him lead us.

Besides your family or faith, what is something you are passionate about?

Slowing it down

I haven't felt like I've had much to write lately and I don't want to write just to write.  I have a couple of posts I'm working on, but otherwise... I'm just sitting back and trying to enjoy my summer.

Starting with a cup of coffee on the front porch before my kids woke up.

Life seems to speed up faster and faster the older I get.  On days like today, I'm just trying to slow it down a bit and enjoy the little moments.  The quiet, not so busy moments.

I hope you all have quiet, not so busy moments this week as well and that you take the time to enjoy them.

Routine

This saying pretty much sums up my life this past week.
I have been filling in at my Dad's pharmacy this last week.  Yesterday was my last day and I couldn't be happier to be back home today working on laundry and getting my house put back together.  Sometimes being a stay at home Mom or a house wife isn't always the most glamorous and I don't always feel like I am challenging myself enough.  But then I go to work for a week and I'm all, forget challenging myself.  I love to be home!  Haha!

So today I'm working on laundry, meal planning, grocery shopping, cleaning, running kids around to their activities and all the other not so exciting or glamorous things in my job description... but today I'm loving it!  Because I do love a good routine.  ;)

I hope you all are having a great week so far!

4th of July

And just like that the 4th of July has already come and gone.  I can't get over how fast this summer seems to be flying by.

I was too busy having fun and enjoying my day on Saturday that I didn't take a single picture.  Thankfully a few people had their camera's out.

My brother in law loaded up all of us Mom's and dropped us off upstream.  Most years it only takes us about 2 hours to float back down.  This year we were 3 1/2 hours in and still had a ways to go, so we had to have the guys tow us back.  We would have been more than happy to have stayed out there longer, but we figured we were being missed by our men and kids, and somebody had to get dinner started.  :)

My younger two are out of town for a couple of days staying with their cousins and Dan had to run into work to deal with an issue yesterday evening.  So it was just Gracie and I, which doesn't happen very often.  We watched a movie and just relaxed.  Perfect way to spend a Sunday evening with my girl.

Gracie just got done with a basketball camp last week and now we are starting back up with a volleyball camp this week.  It's the story of July.  Just looking at July on my calender makes me a bit stressed as there are only a couple of days where we don't have much planned.  Time to put on some running shoes.
I hope you all had a great weekend as well.

Friday Favorites

Well, the weekend's almost here my friends!!!

Today I'm linking back up with Andrea, Erika and Narci to share my Friday favorites.

1.  With all this 100 degree weather that we've been having, playing in or on the the water is our favorite thing to do.

2.  There isn't much that Emma and I love more than babies.  We could sit and hold them all day long.  This day, I held my niece until she fell asleep.  I didn't want to give her up but Emma made me hand her over.

3.  I have been on a Caesar salad kick for awhile now.  Being a stay at home Mom, I get bored eating the same old stuff.  No, a Caesar salad probably isn't the healthiest thing I could eat but it's sure easy to make and tastes so much better than a regular old sandwich.
4.  I'm not a big make up girl, but I found this lip gloss at the local pharmacy and I actually really like it.  It's not sticky at all and looks great.  The best part is I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.  I picked a nice clear one, but all the colors look fun.  Do you ladies have a favorite lip gloss that I should know about?
Source
5.  And last but not least... I love a good fun holiday.  We won't be camping like we had planned because our county and the counties around us all have new fire restrictions, so that means no campfires or fireworks.  We've all decided to just play on the water during the day instead.  Lots of family, friends, grilling yummy food and chillin by the water sounds like the perfect way for us to spend it.

I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend!
